“The Elephant Song”

Children’s music performer Eric Herman provides a wonderful example of feigning ignorance. In “The Elephant Song,” Eric sings beautifully and earnestly, “Elephants, I like elephants. I like how they swing through trees,” only to be interrupted by a child saying, “NO! Elephants don’t swing through trees…monkeys do.” Eric continues…”Monkeys, I like monkeys. I like how they swim in the ocean…” whereupon he is corrected again, and again, and again. It’s a great device that encourages critical listening skills, and the sharing of knowledge about animals, but above all, it’s just a lot of fun for kids (and a great tune that you’ll be humming all day).

"The Tale of the Sun and the Moon" is a fable about why the sun is up during the day and the moon is out at night. It's somewhat of a platonic love song about two best friends who can't really be together as much as they would like. The song is from the CD, Snail's Pace, by Eric Herman (also available on his The Kid in the Mirror album), and was adapted from a poem by Kenn Nesbitt. The illustrations in the video were made by Lauren Wilson and the video was conceived and directed by Eric and Roseann Endres.

The Tale of the Sun and Moon

The Sun was in his bathing suit. The Moon in her pajamas.
They played all day until the two were called in by their mamas.
The Sun went home and climbed in bed. His mama sang a tune.
And soon the Sun was fast asleep and dreaming of the Moon.

The Moon decided not to go. Instead she stayed outside.
She danced and played and laughed and sang, til she was sleepy-eyed.

When morning came, the Sun arose and went outside to play.
But could not find his friend, the Moon, who slept inside all day.
So now these two are best of friends apart by dark and light.
The Sun turns in at evenfall. The Moon comes out at night.

The shining Moon sees no sunlight. The Sun sees no moonbeams.
But when they both are fast asleep, they're in each other's dreams

Super Simple Learning's History

It all started with Super Simple Songs. We were teaching at a children's English school in Tokyo, Japan and were having trouble finding songs that were both simple and fun enough to engage our young learners. So we started making our own! Our first collection of songs became the Super Simple Songs CD, and it soon found a following beyond our little school in Tokyo. Several years later, our award-winning CDs, books, and other learning materials are used in homes and classrooms around the world. Today, our goal remains the same: create quality educational materials that make learning and teaching simple and FUN!
